So, I posted a story from AlterNet about Newt yesterday on FB. A distant cousin who lives in Birmingham, AL and who wears a bow tie in several of his FB photos, commented something to the effect of: "Ron, I follow politics too, but I am MUCH more interesting in knowing what's going on in your life. Post about that once in a while."

No one addresses me in that kind of tone. If he had bothered to look, he would have seen other, more personal things that I had posted lately, but perhaps it was the characterization of Newt as a race-baiter in the AlterNet story that got him going.

Who the fuck do these people think they are? Just because they are "family," they think it is their appointed duty to pressure me to keep things comfortably "personal" (like postings of food they ate, or of ball games they watched on TV, like they do, evidently)?

I don't think people understand what a raw nerve it touches when "family" pressure me to "tone it down," i.e. to act more conservatively than I actually am just to please them and increase their comfort level. Fuck their comfort level.

No, I am not going back into the closet--sexually or politically--you piece of shit! Goodbye!!

(I'm venting here, but I didn't respond directly on FB: I just unfriended him. I have been posting some provocative pieces lately, partly in order to smoke out douchebags so I can get rid of them. I've been too "nice" in the past. Now it's time for a correction, and corrections can sometimes be painful.)
