Interview of a prospective PhD student on campus today. Interesting to note the redistribution of duties in my area since our senior colleague's recent retirement. The issue of the occupancy of that colleague's physical office space is still being talked about: today my graduate assistant said that she had been discussing it with her boyfriend, who is a professor at a private college in our state. He was indignant that I had been passed over for that space without having been consulted. Interesting that a number of people seem to have been indignant on my behalf, while I have had a mixed reaction to the situation. While this colleague's physical office has been occupied by the adjunct, my remaining tenured colleague and I are working out who will occupy this colleague's metaphorical "office" (in terms of functions and duties). I recall discussing this anticipated transition with the therapist that I had been seeing briefly in 2014-15, which caused me some concern about possibly having my workload increased beyond what would be comfortable. So far I seem to be handling the situation well, and am finding it relatively easy to make positive use of my strengths in terms of being organized and generally considerate of others. So far I am not finding the attention to additional duties to be terribly burdensome.

An unexpected side effect of the "office" situation is that it is bringing up feelings that are still seeking healing from my former friendship with X. I see this as a possible indication that the adjunct may be a problematic manipulator. I plan to keep as safe a distance as possible for the time being.

Peace,

KH
