A friend recently posted something that reminded me of the term "overexcitability" as used by psychologist K. Dabrowski in characterizing the experiences of gifted people. One summary of the idea is here: http://positivedisintegration.com/Jackson.pdf

Having experienced painful misunderstandings and mischaracterizations of my enthusiasms and behaviors for years, I have found ideas on gifted people useful in putting some of my experiences into perspective.
