Well, I tried to be optimistic but ...

I graded the first homework assignment from this year's students and the score was even worse than it was for last year's students. This year I have started using Blackboard discussions of every assigned reading. OK, they ask some good questions on Blackboard, but it is several more hours per week out of my life, answering about 150 questions a week, and they still can't seem to do a simple homework assignment. Wow. American education.

I've been checking in with professors and graduate students about the students from last year's class, some of whom made vicious comments to me on course evaluations. I've already been hearing reports of students acting up in class and creating problems for the instructor. Wow. American education.
